O Lord and Master of my life! Take from me the spirit of sloth, faint-heartedness, lust of power, and idle talk. But give rather the spirit of chastity, humility, patience, and love to thy servant. Yea, O Lord and King! Grant me to see my own errors and not to judge my brother; For Thou art blessed unto ages of ages.
Amen

Update on Baby Brayley from Charlotte ~
Here is the link to Charlotte's update on the mother and father.
My prayers go out to these parents. They have made a life giving choice that came with a huge burden. I can't imagine their pain right now. God bless them and may he fill them all with His grace as they await Brayley's birth.
Oh how I pray they get a chance to hold her.

Today in honor of St. Rose of Lima
God our Father, for love of You, St. Rose gave up everything to devote herself to a life of penance. By the help of her prayers may we imitate her selfless way of life on earth and enjoy the fullness of Your blessings in heaven. Grant this through our Lord Jesus Christ, Your Son, Who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
St. Rose pray for us,
That we have the same fervent love and faith that filled your soul while here on earth.
Afternoon Tea
(listening to St. Rose of Lima's story)
St. Rose's Song Prayer
Tiny singer, flit your wings;
Bow before the King of kings.
Let your lovely concert rise
To Him Who gave you songs and skies.
Let your throat, full of carols sweet,
Pour them before the Eternal's feet
That we His praise may magnify
Whom birds and angels glorify.
I shall sing to Him who saved me:
You will sing to Him who made ye.
Both together, we shall bless
The God of love and happiness.
Sing, sing with bursting throat and heart!
In turn our voices will take part
To sing together, you and I,
A canticle of holy joy.
As the bird flew away:
The little bird abandons me:
My playmate's wings ascend.
Blessed be my God, Who faithfully Stays with me to the end

It began
On
August 19, 1997
we became parents
As most new parents we reviewed names, studied their meaning. We wondered whether you'd be dressed in pink or blue, and had NO idea what labor would REALLY be like.
With no doubt we had fallen in love
In love with all your possibilities
Our sweet first born
You have grown so much
sometimes
you were naughtier than sweet
but
mostly you been such a treat.
I can't believe you're 13!
It really went faster than I could have imagined but, here we are.
Our big girl
sweet
loyal
a girl of faith
courageous
adventurous
a protector of the weak
seeks justice in all the gray areas
loves her horses and the water
and
is loved tremendously by her
Papi and Momma!
Feliz Cumple Anos mija
WE LOVE YOU!!!
(prayer for our daughter)
Most High, glorious God,
enlighten the darkness of my heart and give me
true faith, certain hope, and perfect charity,
sense and knowledge, Lord, that I may carry out
Your holy and true command.
Amen.

Lost in Translation
Last week a couple of families, us included, got together for dinner and a Flamenco show at El Cid. A friend found a good deal using Groupon.com. El Cid is located in the middle of the Silverlake area in Los Angeles. Blocks away from where I use to live...back in the day.
Anyway, the restaurant has an old spanish feel to it. Brick walls, balconies overhead with iron gates give an authentic feel to the place. Really, a cool place for dinner (and the food, though not gourmet, is pretty good). I suggest the Halibut.
We took our older 3 kids, thinking they would enjoy the dancing while they ate. As a bonus we were seated at the center table, right in front of the stage...awesome table. The youngest girls sat closest to the stage and Max was right there with them.
Our meals were ordered and the show began. The girls were captivated by the dancers and the live singing. Max, on the other hand looked mostly confused and well...half asleep. I was a bit surprised that he wasn't more into it. There was a live guitarist, percussionist (which he plays for kadima), singer and two dancers literally feet away from him. But, he hardly had a reaction.
What gives...I thought?
After the show, Max looked up at Papi and asked most seriously....
"So, when does the flamingo show start"?
I guess I should have been clearer that we were going to a flaMENCO show and not a flaMINGO one. Ah well...it was a good evening with or without birds.
